Limestone Saws
When I first arrive in Moorak, South Australia, I made the effort to get to know the area. The first thing I did was research the history of the area. The members of the Mount Gambier History Groups found a book for me called ‘Second to None’ by Pam and Brian O’Conner. In the book is a chapter, chapter 40 on the “The Lock Family – Farmers and Builders. I now live on the original Lock family farm with Mervyn Lock. In the sheds are the original saws his grandfather used to cut limestone blocks from the quarry to build the houses in the district. The lock family, the limestone saws and the sea bed archaeological history of the Limestone Coast are the inspiration for this embroidery.
