William Darton Kekewick 1822 -1872 is a distant relative by marriage. He was 2nd in command to john McDouall Stuart between Aug 1859 – Jan 1863 on 4 journeys of exploration including 3 attempts to cross the Continent of Australia from Adelaide to Indian Ocean. He came to Port MacDonnell to live and ran a boarding house on Milstead St. He died aged 49 at Blinman (??) while travelling north as 3rd officer and collector of natural history specimens with William Christie Grosse.
McDouall Stuart described him as “everything I could wish a man to be”
